My Father's Grave

On the 11th dad was cremated. Today I am going to the Cemetery with my sister to pick a grave. Sister decided to get a family grave that fits 9 urns inside.  Why 9? Why this number?

We are all atheists (save for my mother) so father’s ashes are going to be buried on the 25th  after family and friends ( friends who knew him here) will gather on a non religious chapel in the cemetery and have a few flowers around his urn and say a few words for him. We are going to have a pipe organ and someone playing music but I hope Ronnie will play something too. Father loved the fact that Ronnie was a musician and it was the only way for them to communicate since father’s English were worse than Ronnie’s Greek.

After the Goodbye Gathering we are going to the grave-spot (the one we are picking today) and burry the urn.

If you ask me, I find it rather vain. If it was up to me I would scatter his ashes in the Memory Grove .

(I mean isn’t it enough he is dead and burned to ashes? Does he have to be stuffed in an urn underground when all around the cemetery is so beautiful?)

He would be pleased though to know that his ashes will be buried in Skogskyrkogården along with Greta Garbo.

And now if you’ll excuse me I have some grave shopping to do.
